Short Description
The Province of West-Flanders is working at a level between the local and regional authorities of Belgium. Since 1996 West-Flanders has adopted a more area oriented approach alongside the traditional (more sectoral oriented) approach.
This makes it possible to create specific area programmes which focus on the very specific needs, opportunities, and challenges of an area - all of which can vary in scale.
One example of this is the area programme 'canal Roeselare-Ooigem'. The area consists of 5 municipalities (Roeselare, Izegem, Ingelmunster, Oostrozebeke and Wielsbeke) all of which are connected with each other by the 16.5 km long canal Roeselare-Leie. The aim of this programme is to make this area even more attractive for entrepreneurs, inhabitants and visitors.
Several (multiple policy) initiatives in will be carried out through our involvement in Waterways for Growth, which will help us realize this ambitious challenge
