European Maritime Day 2012

The event is celebrated annually and highlights the importance of the seas and oceans and the challenges facing maritime regions and sectors. This years theme is “Sustainable growth from the oceans, seas and the coasts: Blue growth" The conference will take place in Eriksbergshallen in the former shipyard area of central Gothenburg on 21-22 May 2012. and is free to attend. The European Commission is the organiser of the event, with the government of Sweden, Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg acting as local partners

Start of anniversary year '150 years canal Roeselare-Leie'
In 2012, it has been 150 years ago that the Belgian government has officially decided to create the Roeselare-Leie canal. A very important decision for the socio-economic development of this region in West-Flanders! The anniversary year will be used to make people (re)discover the canal area and to communicate about all the actions that we are carrying out at the moment through Waterways for Growth.
Advent Cruise in Telemark
The cruise will depart from Kragerø at 11:45 and return at 13:40. The cruise will take place in the archipelago to Jomfruland with entertainment on board. Grøt (Norwegian porridge) will be served. Final celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Telemark Canal
This year, we have celebrated the 150th year anniversary of the Norsjø-Skien canal. This is the oldest part of the Telemark Canal which opened the waterway between the coast and the industrial city of Notodden, with train connections to Rjukan in the inner part of Telemark. The final celebrations will take place in Notodden on September 24th with historical walks, a boat trip on the Heddal waterway and a marking of the establishment for the Telemark Canal Regional Park. International Padling Event
An international padling event is being planned to be held from September 24-25 and is part funded by the Waterways for Growth Telemark project. There will be a padling competition on the Telemark East Waterway from Notodden to Akkerhaugen. We hope that many international padling enthusiasts will come and discover the Telemark Canal East and enter this exciting new event. Seal watching safari
Join us for a seal watching safari every Tuesday from August 16th until June 19th - departure from Kragerø at 10:45 with return at 12:35; Saturdays from August 20th until June 16th - departure from Kragerø at 11:10 with return at 13:00 and Sundays from August 21st until June 17th with departure from Kragerø at 11:45 with return at 13:40. The seal watching safari will take place in the Kragerø archipelago to the island of Jomfruland. Here you will most likely get to experience seals in their natural habitats. A Week of Martime Sensations in Bremerhaven

Water-Connecting People

Langesund International Shanty Festival
From June 3-5, the Langesund international shanty festival will be held at the start harbour of the Telemark Canal. At this annual festival, shanty singers are gathered from near and far, and the city is filled with good song, laughter, dancing and festivity. The festival has an international flavour, and this is the18th event since its inception in 1991. The Shanty Festival helps to preserve maritime traditions which are an important part of coastal culture. Shanty on the Bandak
More great music is to be heard when the Langesund shanty choir visits Tokke on Saturday May 28th. A concert will take place at Lårdal at 5:00 pm, there will be a concert on the boat Victoria up to Dalen, and at Dalen harbour when the boat arrives. The Shanty choir has participated in festivals in both Europe and America, and will sing well-known, sailor songs in Bandak for the first time. The concert is free, and is sponsored by Telemark County, Tokke municipality and Waterways for Growth. Jazz Cruise with "Henrik Ibsen"
Friday May 20th, the fun continues with a canal cruise on the newly restored "Henrik Ibsen" on the Bandak canal. The tour starts from the Dalen harbour at 7:00 pm and the boat returns to the dock at 11:00 pm. A jazz orchestra and good food is part of the festivities and tickets can be purchased at the Dalen tourist office or at the website www.visitdalen.com from May 2nd. Belgian Boatshow 2011
The Belgian Boat Show takes place from February 12th till 14th and 18th till 20th at Flanders Expo in Ghent. Toerisme Scheldeland participates in partnership with Nautiv, Toerisme Leistreek and Toerisme Gent. Friday 18th, the 4 partners organise a 2° symposium at 2:30 P.M. "A tour around Flanders. Cruising loops in the heart of Europe".
