Gothenburg hosts European Maritime Day 2012

Gothenburg hosts the European Maritime Day 2012 next month. The event is celebrated annually and highlights the importance of the seas and oceans and the challenges facing maritime regions and sectors. This years theme is “Sustainable growth from the oceans, seas and the coasts: Blue growth".

 

Several events are organised across Europe and the main event is held in one place, in the form of a high level meeting and a stakeholder conference. It features several European policy makers who will deliver keynote speeches. Previously hosted in Brussels 2008, Rome 2009, Gijon 2010 and Gdansk 2011, the 2012 edition will be held in Gothenburg, Västra Götaland, Sweden – for the first time in Scandinavia and in the North Sea area.

 

 

 

The European Commission is the organiser of the event, with the government of Sweden, Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg acting as local partners. The conference will take place in Eriksbergshallen in the former shipyard area of central Gothenburg on 21-22 May 2012. and is free to attend.
